Finally, a cafe worth blogging about that we do not have travel too far to get to! Located in Ainsworth Street, Apples on Ainsworth is a retro-looking café. Mismatched furnitures and vintage style deco makes you feel like you’re dining in some small country town.
The menu offers the standard breakfast fair but also a little flair with menu items like the “dirty hippy” – a chai latte with a shot of espresso.
The drinks menu has fresh juices, smoothies, shakes, coffee and a variety of teas. I ordered a mixed berry smoothie ($5.90) and D ordered a cappuccino ($5). The coffee comes in 3 sizes; cup, mug and BUCKET – the choice was obvious. The drinks were both okay, but nothing mind blowing.
Food-wise, I ordered Spanish eggs (baked eggs with savoury mince and beans) ($11.50) and D ordered sunny side up eggs on sourdough with a side of vitamin B-acon ($13.90).
I found the Spanish eggs flavoursome and tasty. The cheese sticks that came with it were the perfect accompaniment.
D’s sunny side up eggs came served with spinach, sour dough and a small serving of house relish. The relish seemed too little at first but packed quite a punch and was actually just the right amount. The side of bacon was smoky and a little crispy, just how D likes it.
Overall we were happy with our breakfast. Compared to many others, Apple on Ainsworth is quite affordable and also conveniently located for anyone on the south side. Check it out.
